MySpace Finally Sync Into Facebook

MySpace has finally Sync and Plugin with their rival Facebook to compete with other social networking websites. Facebook has grown so dominant that not syncing up to its web of social connections would be a mistake. The News Corp.-owned social network, as was rumored late last year, has "synced" its service with Facebook (and Twitter) so that members can cross-post their status updates as well as shared content.

It's pretty self-explanatory, taking the recently revamped "stream" design of MySpace profiles and plugging in Twitter and Facebook's application program interfaces (APIs).

The "syncing" applies not only to individual MySpace users, but also bands and celebrities. One of the reasons why this is pretty imperative for MySpace is because it's in serious danger of losing out entirely to Facebook's "fan pages." MySpace gained much of its early traction because it was possible for independent musicians to establish a presence and manage a fan base there, something that lost its luster once Facebook's open-ended fan pages started to take off even more successfully than many had speculated.

"This is particularly exciting for the millions of musicians on MySpace who can now use this tool as a complement to their MySpace Music presence and share their vast library of content, including full album catalogs, to people who've liked their Facebook page," a release from MySpace explained.

Facebook Launches Live Streaming Channel

Facebook Live is now available on the social network's site.
Facebook has launched a live-streaming channel designed to provide its users with content detailing what's happening at the company's headquarters.

Dubbed Facebook Live, the new service is basically a PR channel for the company. According to a representative, Facebook Live "is a natural extension of our blog and is a way to communicate with our users more directly." Facebook will be airing interviews with people that stop by its headquarters, highlighting its new products, and trying to capture the "activity already happening at Facebook." Whereas it was doing all this before with text, now it wants to up the ante with video.

Content will be available on Facebook Live all day, every day. When shows are live, Facebook users can comment and potentially have their questions answered by the hosts. After a show airs, users will be able to go back to the Facebook Live page and watch a rerun of it at their convenience. Facebook Live can be embedded into other Web sites, or users can add a Facebook Live page to their profile pages to have quick access to the service.

It's worth noting that Facebook isn't getting in the content business to compete with services like Ustream or Livestream, which enable users to create their own live-streaming channels and push content out to viewers. Instead, Facebook Live (which is powered by Livestream, in fact) seems to be little more than a way for the company to pat itself on the back and tout its products.

But driving the point home that Facebook isn't getting into the video-streaming business seemed to be paramount to the social network. A Facebook representative was quick to point out that the social network "has no plans to get into content production."

MySpace Leak User Data With Advertisers

As we know MySpace is one of the promising Social Networking website like facebook. But it has been observed and reported by the Wall Street Journal on Friday that sister News Corp. property MySpace has been giving advertising companies data that could identify members of the social networking service.

MySpace and some third-party applications popular at the online community transmitted unique ID numbers that could be used to find profile pages that could contain names, pictures, gender, and more about a person, the Journal reported.

"Knowledge of a public user ID does not give anyone access to private user data," a MySpace spokesman said in response to an AFP inquiry.

"We share non-personally identifiable information with advertising companies as part of our ad serving process."

MySpace maintained that its terms of service prohibit third-party developers from sharing any user data, including public ID numbers.

"It has recently come to our attention that several third party app developers may have violated these terms and we are taking appropriate action against those developers," the spokesman said.
Actions taken "regularly" to enforce terms of use at the online community include suspending or removing offending applications, according to MySpace.

Social networking king Facebook on Thursday said it planned to start encrypting user identification data that had been inadvertently leaking out through games and other outside applications synched to profile pages.

The move came just days after a Wall Street Journal article exposed the problem, making no mention of the situation at MySpace.

Facebook Vs. Orkut Battle

As we know facebook is now become one of the most popular social networking websites amongst people and now every social network wants to connect like facebook and accept the existence of facebook in Social Network arena. So now Facebook wants to get more success in Brazil and India where Orkut is still popular amongst users.

Facebook is now allowing Orkut users only to link their account to Facebook. Some reports suggest that this is available only for Orkut users in Brazil and India but that’s not evident from the “Link Your Facebook Profile With Orkut” page. This means they can use Facebook to update Orkut, allowing them to keep in touch with their friends on Orkut but giving Facebook the bulk of their time and attention. As Ryan Kim at GigaOm puts it, “it’s basically an invitation to jump ship”.

Google launched Orkut, named for one of its engineers, in 2004. It was the dominant social networking site in India for a long time, until it was overtaken by Facebook earlier this year, and it remains number-one in Brazil. However, Facebook is growing faster than Orkut in both countries.

Reportedly, Facebook started offering the integration tool without any cooperation from Orkut or Google. I think the assessment that it benefits Facebook more than Orkut is probably correct, though it also potentially means the users left behind on Orkut have less reason to move. I’ve never used Orkut but I understand it offers a slightly different set of features to Facebook.

Yahoo Mail Integrated Facebook and Social Media Service

Social Networking is now become one of the effective way to connect with any website in easy way. So Now Yahoo! made this for their users to get connect with their favorite Social Network website within their Yahoo Mail service. Yahoo! has launched a new version of its free email service with better social media connectivity.

Users who elect to try Yahoo Mail Beta can view and share updates from Facebook and Twitter without leaving their Yahoo! in-box, according to WebProNews. There’s also an automatic slideshow feature that allows people to see photos and videos from sites like Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube from within their email messages. Other improvements include unlimited storage and better search functionality.

It’s interesting to watch Yahoo!’s strategy in social media as the company has always been much more a media than a technology company, unlike Google. Yahoo! had many social features of its own but has made the call to partner with others. While Yahoo! owns Flickr, YouTube belongs to rival Google, Facebook has ties with Microsoft and Bing, and Twitter is its own entity. Yahoo! is being smart by realizing that it needs to work with the leading applications, regardless of whether the company is a competitor in other ways.

It will be interesting to see whether Yahoo! users find the new email functionality helpful or whether it ends up being clutter. I use Gmail and I turned Buzz off after only a few days because I found it stressful having so many unread messages. I’ve also tried using Flock – like Firefox but with social media integration – as my web browser but I abandoned it because it was distracting.

MySpace Integrated Facebook Connect Button

The most popular button amongst many webmasters and websites Facebook Connect has finally appeared on the signup page for MySpace. MySpace users can use Facebook Connect to get updates streamed to their MySpace accounts from things they have "liked" on Facebook. It's not the first time MySpace has used its larger competitor's technology, but it's the broadest implementation of a strategy that makes it clear that the first round of the social-network battles are over.

New MySpace CEO Mike Jones hosted the conference call to discuss the move. He was accompanied by Facebook's Dan Rose, vice president of partnerships and platform marketing, on the call, who compared MySpace's use of "Mashup" to really any Web site that uses data from Facebook Connect to personalize their sites with that social data.

After a slow decline as Facebook grew, MySpace is trying to stop comparisons to Facebook by rebranding itself as a "social entertainment" site full of updates on celebrities, new songs from bands, and other content geared around the entertainment industry. Adding Facebook's broad array of "likes" gives MySpace users a quick way to assemble that data they have probably already curated over at Facebook, assuming they prefer MySpace's user interface.

Yahoo, Zynga Joint Venture for Mafia Wars and Fish Ville Social Apps

The most famous Social Networking Apps Development company Zynga joins up with Yahoo! for the development of its most popular games on social networking websites and facebook called Mafia Wars and Fish Ville.

These aren’t the first Zynga games to make it to Yahoo! in the partnership between the two companies, but Mafia Wars is easily the biggest. In August, Zynga counted 45.5 million Facebook subscribers for Mafia Wars, with 6.6 million in September for FishVille.

Facebook Registered "Face" Trademark

Facebook has been registered the word "Face" as a trademark which is issued by the US Patent And Trademark Office as a “Notice Of Allowance” for trademarking the word “Face”

Facebook has been stepping up their efforts to fend off companies who leverage their name as part of a site and now Facebook has one more arsenal in their ongoing battle against supposed trademark infringers, like Lamebook, who has now been blocked from posting any content on Facebook, crippling the site’s traffic. Given how comment the word “face” is, it’s incredible that the Trademark Office has let the company trademark the word for “Telecommunication services, namely, providing online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general interest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter, none primarily featuring or relating to motoring or to cars”.

While Apple’s recent FaceTime product isn’t a chat room, one has to wonder if it would infringe on Facebook’s soon-to-be-owned trademark on the word “Face” since it’s technically a “telecommunication service”.
